Optimiz Construction raises €1.5 million to optimise welded mesh on construction sites

The French startup Optimiz Construction, which wants to improve the use of welded mesh on construction sites, has just raised €1.5 million. For its first funding round, Optimiz Construction received backing from Sista, Kima and AFI Ventures, as well as from several business angels from the tech and construction industries.

Welded mesh is indispensable for construction projects using concrete, however, it can generate many losses if the cutting process if not optimised. Thanks to the solution developed by Optimiz Construction, construction industry players and engineering consultants can calculate their welded mesh needs for each project and plan optimised cut-outs, in order to limit waste. The startup promises an average 15% savings on the quantity of materials to be ordered.

Founded in 2020, the solution has already been adopted by some 50 construction sites in the Bordeaux region. With this fundraising round, the company plans to double its workforce and accelerate its rollout throughout France.

Ethiopian startup Kubik raises $3.34 million in seed money for its reuse solution turning hard-to-recycle plastic waste into building materials

The Ethiopian startup Kubik, which recently won an AfricaTech Award in the Climate Tech category at Vivatech, has just raised $3.34 million. Support came from several business angels and numerous funds and foundations, including Plug and Play Ventures, Bestseller Foundation, GIIG Africa Fund, Satgana, Unruly Capital, Savannah Fund, African Renaissance Partners, Kazana Fund, Princeton Alumni Angels and Andav Capital..

Founded in 2021, Kubik has a double social and environmental impact. The startup transforms hard-to-recycle plastic waste into low-carbon building materials, while focusing on improving the lives and working conditions of women in charge of waste collection.

The waste collected becomes cheaper substitutes for the cement, aggregates and steel needed by the construction industry, while having carbon footprints at least five times lower than those of cement-based products. The startup currently recycles 45 tonnes of plastic waste (polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene) daily, a figure it intends to double thanks to this recent funding.

South Korean startup Xpanner raises $7.8 million for its construction site automation robotics

South Korean startup Xpanner has just raised a total of $7.8 million across two rounds from local investors, including Korea Investment Partners and KB Investment in April, followed by STIC Ventures and Korea Technology Finance Corporation in May.

Founded in 2020, Xpanner is tackling the construction site automation market using robotics and the Internet of Things. Its automation solution called “Mango” is designed to facilitate earthworks operations. In the space of three years, the company has already generated a turnover of $7.8 million and raised a total of $9.4 million.

Xpanner is now preparing to expand its activities outside its native land: an American subsidiary has been created and the first international partnerships have been signed with Geotab (US), Pirtek (US), Infrakit (Finland), MOBA (Germany), Engcon (Sweden) and Steelwrist (Sweden).
